What about the Weekend?

Crossroads is partnering with Hand2Hand to provide backpacks of food for kids in the Rockford Public School System who are experiencing weekend hunger. You can serve with us by praying for the kids, donating food, packing food and/or delivering backpacks to the schools. Follow this page for information about how to get involved by donating or joining us for a packing party!

For our next packing party we will be collecting the prepackaged breakfast and snack items in listed above! Donated items can be dropped off at Crossroads in the lobby on Sunday mornings or during weekday business hours.

Understanding the need

At school, many children can receive breakfast and lunch through the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. When students are not in school is when kids are at the highest risk for hunger. Over the 68-hour gap of the weekend and on extended school breaks, many students do not have access to the nutritional food they need to reach their full potential. Studies show that hunger among children:

  • affects their performance in school
  • increases their chance of sickness
  • affects their future education and success
  • impacts their physical and mental health

Hand2Hand provides a backpack of food for kids facing weekend hunger in West Michigan. Beyond physical nutrition, this food provides hope for students who are experiencing hunger.

Currently, Hand2Hand is serving 12,440 students in 280 schools, ages 3-18, in 44 school districts in West Michigan.
