Crossroads is partnering with Hand2Hand to provide backpacks of food for kids in the Rockford Public School System who are experiencing weekend hunger. You can serve with us by praying for the kids, donating food, packing food and/or delivering backpacks to the schools. Follow this page for information about how to get involved by donating or joining us for a packing party!
Join the 2025 Hand2Hand Packing Team
Interested in helping children in our community? We’re looking for people to join the Hand2Hand Packing Party team for 2025.
This team helps pack backpacks of a few times a year at the local Hand2Hand pantry, located at Rockford Reformed Church. All ages are welcome, this is a great opportunity to get your children involved in serving!
Additionally, you can serve by:
- Delivering donated items from the bins at Crossroads to the pantry at Rockford Reformed Church.
- Dropping off food items on Friday afternoons.
- Helping us to spread the word about needed items that we are collecting.

To ensure we have a strong start, we’re launching a Summer Food Drive! We’ll be collecting essential food supplies now through the end of August. Your contributions will help us get a jump on stocking the new pantry shelves.
Crossroad Church has committed to collecting the following items:
- 140 packages (6.5 oz.) of any brand “Just Add Water” pizza crust mix
- 140 packets (5.4 oz.) or boxes (6.4 oz.) of any brand Mexican Rice
- 70 cans/pouches (4.5 oz.) of Premium Chunk White Chicken
Drop off your generous donations in the designated box located between the doors at Crossroad Church. These items will then be transported directly to the new Hand2Hand pantry at Rockford Reformed Church.

Understanding the need
At school, many children can receive breakfast and lunch through the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. When students are not in school is when kids are at the highest risk for hunger. Over the 68-hour gap of the weekend and on extended school breaks, many students do not have access to the nutritional food they need to reach their full potential. Studies show that hunger among children:
Hand2Hand provides a backpack of food for kids facing weekend hunger in West Michigan. Beyond physical nutrition, this food provides hope for students who are experiencing hunger.
Currently, Hand2Hand is serving 12,440 students in 280 schools, ages 3-18, in 44 school districts in West Michigan.
